Welcome to the web page of the Utrecht Law Society (JSVU). We are the official general law society of the Utrecht University. Our society has one goal: looking after the interests of the Utrecht law students. We try to reach this goal by offering a great diversity of activities, organized by students, for students.
Our activities can be divided in several categories. First of all the educational services: we offer books for all bachelor and master courses. A couple of weeks before a new course period starts (one semester exists of two periods) you can order your books online in our webshop with a discount of 15 per cent on English law books. We will inform you about the ordering period through the international office. Just before the beginning of the period you can pick up your pre-ordered books in our shop at Voorstraat 45.
The last news
Since September 1 our faculty (Law, Economics & Governance; LEG) has a new dean, Annetje Ottow. It is high time to get introduced to the dean en get to know each other better! On January 8, a small group of students of our faculty has already had the opportunity to have a lunch with the dean.
As this lunch has been a great experience for both the participating students and the dean, we organize a second student lunch on March 3 from noon to 1 P.M. Would you like to network with the dean and debate on topics as ‘what should our faculty look like in 2020?’, ‘how could ICT play a role in education at our faculty?’ or have you always wanted to ask the dean a question you have not been able to ask up until now? Then this is your chance! We have room for just about 10 students, so sign up quickly! You can sign up this week only by sending an e-mail to Joël Wieme (J.L.Wieme@uu.nl). Please include your name, study, study year and, if applicable, any dietary needs.
The student lunches with the faculty dean will be organized four times per academic year, from which this lunch will be the last for this academic year (2014-2015).
Dear students, tonight at our monthly members drink the theme of the 24th edition of our Almanac will be revealed! Come and see if you can get your hands on one of our copies! In addition, the first few drinks of the evening will be on us. So no excuses to stay home tonight!
Next week the Law & Economics committee will organise a guest lecture by Marius de Groot & Gilda Amaya from United I-Trust.
They will talk about what trust banking and off-shores are and discuss subjects such as tax evasion, corporate social responsibility, the interaction between EU & International Law on their business and how this is to change with proposed EU law for the sector.
The lecture will take place at the 20th of February from 15.00-17.00 (3-5PM) at the Raadzaal (ASP). Everyone who is interested is welcome to sign up for this lecture!
