The society has been erected to further the interests of the students of the Utrecht University law faculty. An example of how she attempts to further their interests is by organising events that are complementary to the faculty's curriculum. The events that the JSVU organises can be subdivided into the following categories:
- Speaker events/presentations: guest lectures and a yearly conference.
- Career events: visits to law firms and other prospective employers of law students and a two-day career event called: the 'Utrechtse Bedrijvendag'.
- Social events: monthly drinks for active members, law faculty parties, welcome events for freshers and an annual Ball.
In addition the society publishes a yearbook and a diary.
The events are organised by various committees, a committee typically consists of five to eight students. Every year a new JSVU-board (executive committee) is installed, consisting of seven students. The JSVU-board takes care of everything that concerns the society. They are present on a daily basis at the home of the JSVU at Jansveld 44 to answer questions and meet with the committees.
There are four entities which are part of the Utrecht Law Society: the JSVU Studiewinkel, the JSVU Boekenservice, the Young Talent Group and the Juncto. The JSVU Studiewinkel sells summaries, lecture notes and old editions of exams in its shop at the Voorstraat 45. The JSVU Boekenservice sells books to members of our society at a 10% discount. The Young Talent Group's aim is to bring future employers and students in touch and by doing this improve the career perspectives of our members. The Juncto publishes the independent faculty magazine of the Utrecht University law faculty.
The JSVU, the JSVU Studiewinkel, the JSVU Boekenservice, the Young Talent Group and the Juncto are all located in the same building. The building lies exactly between the Jansveld and the Voorstraat. Due to this there are two entrances into the same building. The entrance of the JSVU is at the Jansveld 44 and the entrance of the JSVU Boekenservice and JSVU Studiewinkel is at the Voorstraat 45.
